  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Wiedza:

Student has knowledge of the basic theoretical concepts and terms explaining the directions of urban development

Student knows the main trends in the history of urban development in Poland and abroad

Student has knowledge about problems of contemporary urban development, ways of solving them and the most important directions in urban policy

Student knows empirical examples of the analyzed processes (from Poland and from selected countries)

Umiejętności:

Can use theoretical concepts to analyze contemporary socio-economic phenomena in the city (for example to indicate the consequences of a particular process for the urban community)

Is able to critically analyze debate in media and other information about current phenomena occurring in cities

Is able to formulate questions for urban decision-makers on issues related to shaping urban policy

Kompetencje społeczne:

Is more aware of the significance of processes taking place in a city

Is prepared to participate in the discussion, express and justify his opinion on the processes ongoing in cities

Understands the importance of city management taking into account the interests of different groups of citizens

Is encouraged to participate in creating the urban policy

The implementation of the didactic program will allow students to learn about the socio-economic problems of a contemporary city and the theoretical concepts necessary to analyse them. The program has been divided into five thematic blocks: 1. Theoretical concepts explaining development of cities 2. Historical determinants of changes in urban space; 3. The role of different sized cities in the state's development policy; 4. Selected problems of contemporary cities and ways of solving them; 5. Diverse aspects of urban policy.

The aim of the course is to describe and analyze the most important problems related to the urban development. The special attention will be paid to the issues such as conditions of spatial development, privatization of the urban public space, crisis phenomena in cities, revitalization, diversity of interests of social groups, social participation in urban policy, urban conflicts and ways of solving them. The aim of the course is to make students interested in the processes taking place in cities and teach them to analyse the public debate on the directions of urban development. It is equally important to encourage them to participate in urban management and make them aware of their rights in this area.
