Objectives of the course

To familiarize participants with the structure of the financial markets, functions of the main financial institutions and supervision of the financial market.

To explain cash-flow calculations and discounting rules in the light of various short- and long-term decisions.

To explain the market valuation methods of a company.

To discuss how financial management is utilised in the banking, insurance and public finance sectors.

Wiedza:

The student is able to:

1.describe approaches to the sources of finance of an organisation and calculate the cost of equity;

2. draw conclusions and evaluate decisions relating to financial investments on the basis of financial data and analyses;

3. use hedging to reduce exchange rate risk and interest rate risk;

4. know how the financial markets operate: money market, capital market, stock exchange, investment and pension funds.

Umiejętności:

The student should be able to:

1. use the concepts and techniques of investment project assessment;

2. forecast cash flows and their present value;

3. assess the effectiveness of an investment;

4. prepare set of financial information useful for financial purposes.

The student should:

1. be aware of the importance of cooperation of various functional units of an enterprise in making financial decisions;

2. be able to communicate financial information clearly and prepare it competently.
