Efekty uczenia się: |
Wiedza: After completing the course students are expected to: 1. Understand the importance of institutions as key determinants of business decisions and economic performance. After completing the course students are also expected to: 2. Develop a critical understanding of the co-existing varieties of contemporary capitalism or institutional diversity of business environments in the world. After completing this course students should be able to: 3. Grasp the intracacies of institutional development and the peculiar nature of business environment in emerging market economies, with special regard to Central and Eastern European countries. Umiejętności: By the end of this course students should be able to: 1. Access information on institutional determinants of business decisions and economic performance in contemporary market economies in Europe. By the end of this course students shoulkd be capable of: 2. Assessing varieties/models of capitalism coexisting in Europe, based on comparative analyses of their strengths and weaknesses as well as their effects on business decisions. By the end of this course students will demonstrate the skill of: 3. Explaining and critically evaluating the nature and most salient features of the emerging models of capitalism in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of their impact on business environment. Kompetencje społeczne: After completing the course students should be able to: 1. Effectively work in teams. After completing the course students should be able to: 1. Effectively communicate with team mates and rest of the class. |

The main goal of the course is to acquaint students with the importance of institutions as a key determinant explaining diverse ways in which companies operate and perform in different countries or clusters of countries embodying various co-existing models/varieties of contemporary capitalism. For this purpose, students will be exposed, first, to the very idea of institutions as ?rules of the (economic, social and political) game?, and to diverse models of capitalism or distinctive sets of institutional arrangements, which exhibit clear differences among developed and emerging economies. By the end of this course students should be able to identify the nature and key characteristics of institutions operating in different countries (their effectiveness, efficiency, as well as the relationships between various institutions) and hence they will be also capable of distinguishing various models of capitalism existing in these countries (e.g. their home countries).
