Wiedza: A student should be able to 1. Pinpoint the factors that make the labour market an uncompetitive one. 2. Understand mechanisms determining labour supply and labour demand and the wage formation. 3. Explain the influence of the labour market institutions on its micro- and macroeconomic performance. 4. Critically judge the empirical literature on the subject Umiejętności: A student should know how to: 1. Critically synthesize and review the scientific literature on the subject. 2. Take advantage of the due modelling tools and analytical methods to describe and depict major issues upon the introductory and intermediate level of labour economics. 3. Employ the acquired knowledge of the mechanisms governing the labour market performance to explain the observed regularities and phenomena. Kompetencje społeczne: 1. The aim of this course is to present students contemporary labour market models, empirical strategies of analyzing labour markets as well as important empirical findings and stylized facts. The lecture is to introduce basic research topics, methodological approaches and to provide the participant with the ability to study labour economics on his/her own. During the classes the problems discussed during the lecture will be treated formally and empirical methodologies and findings will be discussed. The course in labour economics is aimed at familiarizing students with the basic empirical regularities of labour markets, with a focus on Polish labour market; at understanding and utilizing the basic theoretical concepts and models; and on essential tools of empirical analysis. The course supplies the basis to understand and describe the crucial developments and mechanisms on the labour market, in both short- and long-term. The importance of labour market institutions is presented. |
