Wiedza: Knowledge (after completing the course the student will): 1. Have the knowledge necessary for independent, critical assessment of American activity on the following fields: economy, international relations, American life style promotion and also ecology and global warming. 2. Recognize motives behind American actions in the above fields, allowing to understand and judge current decisions. 3. Understand how political decisions materialize. 4. Learn specific vocabulary and structures necessary for dealing with the above issues. Umiejętności: Skills (after completing the course the student can): 1. Judge American actions on the international arena in the above listed issues. 2. Conclude why, and how American behavior on the international arena has changed and how this change has influenced changes in the issues. 3. Benefit from using advanced primary sources, academic and opinion-forming publications. 4. Upgrade linguistic qualifications by enabling them to use advanced teaching aids. Kompetencje społeczne: Other competencies (after completing the course the student is capable of): 1. Voicing his opinion on advanced matters in the learned language. 2. Debate and engage in polemics in the learned language. |

The course will be organized into four groups of subjects: 1. Changing American economic role in the world; 2. American foreign policy goals and ways of reaching them; 3. McDonalization (standardization) of the world; 4. American role in climatic change and reacting to it. |

Pełny opis: |
The goal of the course is to present essential and contemporary issues in a foreign language. It provides a holistic approach towards different aspects leading to growing disapproval and criticism of American actions on the international arena. The course will integrate information from different challenging sources as: academic publications, governmental and non-governmental reports, opinion-forming weekly and monthly but also movies and documentaries. Presentation of the issues will promote discussion, debating and exchange of opinions. Another vital goal of the course is developing and perfecting general linguistic competences and communication skills especially. |
