Wiedza: Student knows: 1. Principles of planning and conduting empirical surveys 2. Theoretical basis and application of multivariate statistical inference. 3. Sampling selection schemes and inference of comples samples. Umiejętności: Student has skills: 1. plan and practical implement of selected methods of empirical research as well as evaluate research results. 2. interpret results in the context of basic questions from analysis. During the course there will be introduction to research methods in social sciences: definition of research, purpose of using surveys, survey as a process, steps in research process, qualitative vs. quantitative, from hypothesis to measurement, surveys modes, primary and secondary data sources, conceptualization and measurement in surveys, role of questionnaire and statistical foundations of survey methods: sampling. |

Presentation and analysis of role, functions, principles and methods of empirical research (mainly data collecting and analysis), characteristics of selected research tools (with practical examples) as well as presentation of how data could be used in statistical analysis. |
