...The aim of the course is to present various methods of qualitative research that are used in social sciences with particular emphasis on the management and quality sciences. These methods are included in the management paradigms pointing to their basic assumptions and limitations. Selected methods, including case studies, multiple case studies, individual and group in-depth interviews, content analysis and other methods and technics used in management and quality research are presented. Additionally, the grounded theory approach used in research within new and less structured management concepts, are taken into account. |

Paradigms in management and quality sciences. Scientific rigor. Four ways of practicing social sciences, including management science: functionalism, radical structuralism, interpretative-symbolic paradigm, postmodernism. Positivism and interpretativism. Qualitative vs quantitative research methods in research on management and quality. The essence and premises of the application of qualitative research methods in social sciences, including management and quality sciences. Limitations of the application of qualitative research. Types of qualitative research in terms of various criteria. The inductive approach versus the deductive approach in qualitative research. The grounded theory method in research in the field of management and quality sciences. The research process in the grounded theory. The procedure of planning and conducting qualitative research in the scope of management and quality science. Key issues related to the design of qualitative research that form the basis of the research process: method, methodology, theoretical perspective, epistemology (objectivism, constructivism). Planning of the study. Defining the research problem. Formulating research goals, research questions. Choosing a research method. Selection of a research sample in qualitative research. The choice of data collection technique in qualitative research. Selection of data processing and analysis techniques in qualitative research. Reporting the results of qualitative research. Criteria for assessing the credibility of qualitative research. Types of qualitative research methods. Data sources in qualitative research - characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. Literature analysis and critique literature reviews as a qualitative research method. Systematic literature review and other types of literature reviews. Literature review procedure. Wiedza: PhD students know the achievements in the field of qualitative research methods in the management and quality sciences; Students know the general methodology of social sciences, including the methodology of scientific research appropriate to the discipline in which the doctoral dissertation is prepared; PhD students know the main directions of the scientific field in which education at the doctoral school takes place Umiejętności: PhD student is able to make a critical analysis and evaluation of the results of scientific research, expert activity and other creative works and their contribution to the development of knowledge in the area of research; PhD tudent is able to use knowledge from various fields of science to creatively identify, formulate and innovatively solve complex problems or perform research tasks, in particular: - define the purpose and subject of research, formulate research hypotheses, - creatively apply and develop research methods, techniques and tools, appropriate for the conducted research - make conclusions based on the results of scientific research; PhD student is able to plan and implement individual and team research projects Kompetencje społeczne: PhD student has the competence to critically evaluate the scientific achievements and expert activities within the scientific discipline in which the doctoral dissertation is prepared; PhD student has the competence to critically assess his own contribution to the development of the scientific discipline in which the doctoral dissertation is prepared |
